The Assassination of John Lennon
- John Lennon was born on October 9, 1940 and killed on December 8, 1980
- Assassination took place in New York City’s spooky old Dakota apartment building
- with a .32 revolver gun. Mark David Chapman assassinated John Lennon .
- A few yards away the Dakota doorman saw a man in military firing stance and asked him if he knew what he had done, and he responded “I just shot John Lennon”.
- Earlier that day John’s wife Yoko Ono and John posed for the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine in what would become one of the most famous photos ever taken.
- At approximately 5:00pm that same day, John and Yoko left their Dakota apartment to record “Walking on Thin Ice,” at Record Plant Studio.
- Around 10:50 PM Yoko and John arrived home at the apartment building. Yoko was ahead of John entering the lobby first. The doorman screamed our “Mr.Lennon”. Just as John turned around Chapman fired 5 shots. With 1 shot passing Lennon over the head
- Most of the shots were aimed at Lennon’s chest, and 2 bullets hit him in the back and one hit his aorta ( a piece of the heart)
- Pronounced dead on arrival once at the St Luke’s –Roosevelt’s Hospital
